15th Annual Church Olympics

The Church Olympics is an important aspect of the Stairstep Initiative to both build a vibrant African American Church Network (HWU) and to begin to eliminate the disparate health outcomes experienced by African Americans.  Over the last decade the Church Olympics has allowed us to view both increased physical activity amongst African Americans and a wonderful collaboration and interaction of African American churches.

Diabetes, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, and other health scoundrels need to take off running because as a partnership of congregations we are “Moving By Faith” and climbing the mountain together to better health outcomes for our people.  The list of activities is as follows:

Roller Skating, Monday, July 23 – at Roller Gardens, 5622 West Lake St., St. Louis Park, Mn from 7 to 9 p.m.  Contact your Church Health Coordinator to find out how to obtain a free ticket.

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, Wednesday – Friday, July 25-27 – at the Oxford Community Center (Jimmy Lee Rec Center), 270 N. Lexington Parkway, St. Paul.  Team check-in is 5:15 to 5:55 p.m. and games start at 6:05 to 9 p.m.  Championship Games are Friday from 6:05 to 9 p.m.

Track & Field/Family Festival and Resource Fair, Saturday, July 28 – at Patrick Henry High School “Don Swanson Field”, 43rd & Logan/Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Track & Field events include double dutch, hula hoop, egg & spoon, Sr. power walk, softball toss, 3-legged race, and 50-100-200 meter races.
